What to expect during hypnotherapy?
Heightened State of Focus and Concentration
During hypnotherapy, you'll enter a relaxed yet highly focused state, where your attention is narrowed, and distractions are minimised. This is not sleep or unconsciousness; rather, it's a state of increased receptivity to suggestions.
Increased Suggestibility
In this focused state, your subconscious mind becomes open to positive suggestions and new perspectives, enabling the integration of your desired changes in behaviour and thought patterns.
Guided Relaxation and Imagery
As a hypnotherapist, I'll guide you into the hypnotic state through verbal repetition, soothing tones, and vivid mental imagery, such as picturing a calm beach or sinking into a comfortable chair.
Targeting the Subconscious
Hypnotherapy aims to address issues at a subconscious level, where many habits, beliefs, and emotional responses are formed and stored.
Tailored Suggestions
I'll communicate therapeutic suggestions customised to your specific goals for coming to see me as your hypnotherapist, whether it's managing pain, overcoming a phobia, or changing an unwanted habit.
Client Control
Despite being in a state of heightened suggestibility, you're always aware and in control throughout the session. You cannot be made to do anything against your will, and you can emerge from hypnosis at any time.
Self-Hypnosis
I'll teach you self-hypnosis techniques, empowering you to practice relaxation and positive affirmations independently for ongoing self-care and reinforcement of the changes you've made.

What can you expect as a result of hypnotherapy?
As an experienced hypnotherapist, I've enabled clients to achieve their desired results. While the significance of the results varies depending on the client and the issued being addressed, 99% of the time, client report positive impacts, such as:
Significant Symptom Reduction
Many clients experience a notable decrease in the severity of their symptoms, such as reduced pain, anxiety, or cravings.
Behavioural Modification
Successful cessation of smoking, healthier eating habits, and overcoming specific phobias are common outcomes.
Improved Coping Mechanisms
Clients often develop better strategies for managing stress, anxiety, and challenging situations.
Enhanced Well-being
Clients report feeling calmer, more positive, and having a greater sense of control over their lives.
Increased Self-Efficacy
Learning self-hypnosis empowers clients to actively participate in their own healing and maintain positive changes.
Positive Impact on Brain Activity
Studies have shown that suggestions given during hypnosis can lead to changes in relevant areas of the brain, demonstrating the real physiological impact of the therapy.
FAQs to Hypnotherapists
Will you control my mind and make me do things against my will, like a stage show?
This is the most prevalent misconception. In therapeutic hypnotherapy, you remain fully aware and in control throughout the session. You cannot be made to do anything you don't want to do, nor will you reveal secrets you wish to keep. As a hypnotherapist, I'm not a magician with special powers; I'm a guide who helps you tap into your own internal resources. You're simply in a state of heightened focus and relaxation, similar to daydreaming or being engrossed in a book.
What if I can't wake up or get out of the hypnotic state?
It's impossible to get "stuck" in hypnosis. It's not like unconscious sleep. If I were to leave the room, you would either naturally drift into regular sleep and wake up normally, or simply open your eyes and emerge from the state when you choose. Your mind always retains the ability to regain full alertness.
I'm worried. Will I blurt out embarrassing or private things I don't want anyone to know?
As you remain in control and aware, you will not reveal anything you are unwilling to share. Hypnosis is not a truth serum. Your conscious mind acts as a filter, even in the hypnotic state.
I've never done it. What does it feel like and what will happen?
As your hypnotherapist, I'll always begin by explaining the process in detail, answering any questions, and dispelling myths. I'll describe what a typical session entails, including the sensations you might experience (often deep relaxation, calmness, and focused attention), as well as your role. This pre-talk helps to build trust and reduce anxiety about the unfamiliar. Just call me.
I'm afraid. Will hypnosis force me to confront painful memories or traumas that I've buried?
While hypnotherapy can be used to address deep-rooted psychological issues, as a responsible hypnotherapist, I'll always work at your pace and with your comfort level. I will not force you to confront anything you are not ready for. The goal is to process and heal, not to re-traumatise. If such memories arise, they're handled in a safe and supportive environment.
I don't think I can be hypnotised. Am I not strong-willed enough?
Hypnosis has nothing to do with being weak-minded. In fact, clients who are intelligent, imaginative, and able to focus often make excellent subjects for hypnosis. Everyone can experience a hypnotic state to some degree, as it's a natural state of mind we enter daily (e.g., when engrossed in a movie). The key is your willingness and rapport with me as your hypnotherapist. The more you allow yourself to relax and engage, the more effective it will be.
My Hypnotherapy Room in Kent
I provide my hypnotherapy services from Conningsby House, DA13 0HN and The Kent Wellbeing Hub, ME8 8PQ. If you prefer online, then that's okay too.
Lasting change can take time, although research shows that Hypnotherapy has the speediest result compared to
many other therapies.
